Microsoft AJAX support goes mainstream |

Web development advancements are amazing! Scott Guthrie (Microsoft Web Guru) has his thoughts on Microsoft’s announcement on their support for AJAX!
This makes me think of a comment (by Joel Spolsky in his book Joel on Software) that Microsoft doesn’t want to support DHTML and make it better because it doesn’t further their business objectives of selling more Windows Client software. The point being that DHTML doesn’t require IE and Windows. I wonder what Joel would have to say about this.
While on the topic of ASP.Net, I found Wallace’s blog and his great podcast.

What IT policies does your comapny use? |

I ran across these templates from SANS for security policies (or e-policies) from the “In the Trenches” podcast. Maybe you know of other links to similar information? These are usually the most messed up policies I have seen in organizations.

DotNetNuke on Linux? Ah yes, patience young Grasshopper! |

When I first saw Grasshopper I thought, “Why would I want that?” Mono has good support of C# but not really VB.Net. Now I am not a language bigot I use both these languages every day, but the fact is that for cross platform development you MUST understand that C# is a standard and can be implemented by anyone. VB.Net is not and can not.
But then I ran across this post on Patrick Santry's (aka wwwCoder) Blog! I knew that Grasshopper's site ran on DotNetNuke (DNN). But what I didn’t know is that it is running on the Linux platform using PostgreSQL as the backend database! WOW! I love the DNN project and think that choosing VB was actually a great decision because it can prove that VB.Net is a powerful first-class language in .Net. The only drawback I saw was that it would be hard to port DNN to Linux using Mono. Duh! Already done.

Microsoft to provide AJAX for ASP.Net? |

My post on ASP.Net 2.0 and Ajax has been a very popular post. I have looked at the project and have been very impressed. Unfortunately, many companies balk at Open Source or project like this that are “pet projects”. So I was glad (and somewhat shocked) at this post that Microsoft has an AJAX project going.

Dave Winer, did you have any idea how much RSS would effect the Internet! Check out this device (alarm clock) that supports RSS! This is the first embedded device I have seen that supports RSS. Does this mean that I can listen to Podcasts to wake up too??

I think this is very funny! I met Sam a while ago at a Web Service geeks meeting and I am still encouraging him to learn Ruby! I also use Emacs, Thunderbird, Firefox and Open Office every day. As a consultant I need to use MS Office for some of the advanced things like comments and document tracking stuff.
