  Bluetooth Headset for my birthday!!

Boy with a title like that I sure am a geek J.  I went to the local Sprint store and got a great salesman.  He actually encouraged me to try on different headsets and that was very important!  The one I was considering did not fit my ear very well.  I settled on the Plantronics Voyager™ 510 Bluetooth® Headset.

It works great!  I tested it out and I can walk at least 25 feet from the phone.  I can set the phone in the middle of the house and it covers the entire house!  That is with the 802.11b WiFi, cordless phones and microwaves!  But I couldn’t listen to my podcasts / music.  This was a deal breaker for me.  I was ready to return it.  But the mobile bloggers came through for me!

I started researching Windows Mobile 5 Bluetooth profiles.  Jason Langridge lists the supported profiles:

Generic Access Profile (GAP)
Generic Object Exchange Profile (GEOP)
Serial Port Profile (SPP)
Dial-up Networking (DUN) Profile
Hands-Free Profile (HFP)
Headset Profile (HSP)
Human Interface Device (HID) Profile
Object Push Profile (OPP)
ActiveSync-Over-Bluetooth
Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP)
Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP)

The confusion typically starts because it is up to to the OEM to choose which ones they implement or to add additional support for other profiles.

Jason Langridge's WebLog - MR Mobile! posts about A2DP is the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile which provides support for streaming either mono or stereo audio over Bluetooth.  Well A2DP profile is introduced in AKU 2.0 of Windows Mobile.   I started to look for Sprint’s AKU2 update and found it here and a review of AKU 2 A2DP.  I updated and also used this Bluetooth switch program.  I didn’t need the fancy stereo sound.  In fact I just wanted it to work on the small headset I had that would easily fit in my pocket.   I am so glad it worked!!!

After the AKU2 update, all my programs (WebIS & Two Peaks) works fine.  I have noticed that if I pause Windows Media and turn off the phone and come back it not only looses it’s place in the file it loses the file al together and Windows Media player can not play anything and the file needs to be reloaded.  Also I don’t seem to have the EVDO icon shown nearly as much as before so I don’t know if the indicate is more accurate in the update or if the update’s antenna software is not as good?
