  Mobile Bookmarks/Favorites data held hostage

There is a lot of competition right now in the mobile web browser.  Opera and Firefox are targeting the market now with Opera Mini and Minimo.   Microsoft is also innovating in this space with Ajax on Pocket IE and a new browser called DeepFish.  In fact, Darius Wey wrote an excellent article on how to Enable High Resolution Mode in Internet Explorer Mobile!  I didn’t even know you could do this!

The most interesting article I have seen in a while is Ed Hansberry on the fact that Mobile Favorites/Bookmarks does not work!  I particularly liked his podshow reference.  I thought that Vista’s Windows Mobile Device Center would have done this better, but apparently it is worse!  We do not need to cache web pages anymore!  We need simplicity.  Google and Yahoo have services: Google Bookmarks and Delicious.  Why can we not write a program that will synchronize these Bookmarks/Favorites between web (Google and Yahoo – Does Microsoft have one?) and Desktop (App, IE, Safari, Opera, Firefox) and Mobile?  Everyone “faults” Microsoft for vendor lock-in because of proprietary data formats.  But there are so many examples (like this one) where my data is held hostage.
